Package arrived within about 4 days, well before the earliest estimated delivery date. Book in beautiful condition, as described! Fabulous book, as usual in the Harry Potter series. All of the Harry Potter books are very good. Rowling is a proficient writers with a keen intellect and a vast knowledge of human nature.
I've only read the books in French but I've seen the movies in Engish. The books are better than the movies in my opinion and and the movies are top drawer. See all reviews from the United States. I am not terribly interested in sports, so several chapters devoted to a Quidditch match were never going to float my boat.
Towards the end of this book I could hardly put it down. I would rush home from work to get on with the next chapter, and I read the last one hundred pages in one go, deep into the night. I'm not going to be detailed and specific, because you can find out the details for yourself. I just wanted to assure you that it's worth embarking on the journey. Thank you for your feedback. I love the Harry Potter stories, and it is great fun reading them in French! As I am 67 years old, it helps to keep the grey matter working! Bought for my daughter who is taking A level French - quite a challenge, but good 'homework'!

So cool! Came from the UK in a timely manner for my granddaughter's birthday. She's in a French immersion elementary school program in Canada.
The storyline is entertaining. Good read for 10 year old. I love these books and can't wait for the kids to read them too. Delivery was super fast and the books were in perfect condition. J'adore tout simplement!! Cadeau pour petite-fille qui en avait fait la demande.
Tres bien. One person found this helpful.
My sons loves these books for his French Immersion reading time. See all reviews from Canada. Top international reviews. Translate all reviews to English. As I know the books inside out. As an A level french student, I have found reading this book really useful. As I know the books inside out, it is a good place to start reading French, as I don't need to look up every word- I can usually figure out the meaning.
It's slow progress, but I'd definitely recommend trying to read this if you're learning French- it'll improve your skills so much! If you found this review helpful, please click the button below :. Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote.

Il n'a que 8 ans. Les films sont impressionnants et font peur. I can listen to this as I read along with the book. I will say I personally did not like the way the book is read is read in French, I am getting used to it however as it is a good tool for me to improve my French!
I have noticed the some small phrases or sentences are omitted in this listening version, sometimes it is clear why, others not, however so far no large passage been omitted.
Also, if you are a beginner in French I do not recommend this as the story is read for the most part quickly and you would have difficulty keeping up! I have been studying French for years and I still am at University so it is ok for me but I have found that some parts of this are read out very quickly whereas other parts are read out at a slower or normal pace.

I currently own the first Harry Potter book in English, French and Chinese, which is an interesting combination of books to compare. This was the most expensive of the three to buy including shipping and definitely feels the cheapest to hold.
I'm a little disappointed in the translation. I understand their reasoning in choosing to translate the names of places eg Hogwarts becomes Poudlard and it does allow readers to form an understanding missing from the Mandarin version, which translates the names phonetically rather than for meaning. Translating the names of characters also makes some sense but, in my opinion, there is an odd mix of character names chosen.
However I really don't get the change of name for the book. If they were concerned about younger readers not understanding what the philosopher's stone is surely following the route many other countries took calling it Harry Potter and the magic stone or wizard's stone would have made sense? Despite my dislike of some of the choices made by the translator I still recomend this to people wanting to read a story in French.
It is a brilliant story to practice your language skills with. I'm re-learning French after about 10 years and am finding this so useful for revision and vocab practice. One of the best things about it is that Rowling uses and re-uses a lot of the same words so it acts rather like revision! I am finding that my confidence with reading French is much improved and the further I get into the book the easier it becomes Good thing for me there are 7 to get through!
I dropped it 2 stars for 2 reasons: For some unknown reason the words Hogwarts, Muggle and Diagon Alley have all been 'Frenchified'. Why you would 'translate' a made up word is beyond me and I find it quite off-putting.
The other reason is that the book quality is not great; paper feels very thin and fragile and a few of the pages fell out this morning after a few weeks use. Nicely produced edition bought for my Potter-mad teenage daughter to help her improve her French. As she can practically recite the books in English, this should be a useful and painless teaching aid for her. We had looked at other editions of this book in French last time we were in France, but this one is far nicer.
I bought this as I study French but I hate reading! However, I love Harry potter and it is one of the few books I know I like in English so reading it in French is great as the story grasps my attention and in parts when I find the French more difficult to understand I still have an idea of what is happening because I already know the story!
I would recommend reading this book while listening to it being read as well! Brilliant for teaching yourself French, if you're into that kind of stuff. It's very simple language, probably as it is originally a children's book, simple enough for a simpleton like myself.
